A Broadway Understudy tell all... with Music


MTWorks' third installment of UNDERWORLD, under the musical direction of MAT EISENSTEIN (Next To Normal, Bye Bye Birdie), and hosted by Tony Award nominee WILLY FALK (Miss Saigon, Les Miserables). Performed on Monday, December 14th, 2009 at The Triad NYC.

Synopsis: In this Southern Gothic tale, a wandering preacher is embroiled in the passions and politics of a swampy Florida outpost ruled with a macabre sense of justice by two rival sisters during the Great Depression. A darkly comic look at balancing ambition and ideals in a time of crisis.

Synopsis: Imagine an island in hell where Cleopatra, Joan of Arc, and Queen Victoria...wait for their men. What happens when women's lib icon Anaïs Nin arrives to turn their afterlife upside down? David Stallings’ new comedy, Anaïs Nin Goes to Hell explores the question of whether Sartre was right and hell really is other people, or whether we carry around our potential for damnation or salvation within ourselves.

A Night With Broadway's Understudies

MTWorks' first annual presentation of UNDERWORLD.  A one-night cabaret style performance by Broadway’s understudies, telling stories of their experiences and singing songs from Broadway’s hottest shows.  Under the musical direction of MATT DOEBLER (Wicked), and hosted by LAW TARELLO (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee). Performed on Monday, May 19th 2008 at The D-Lounge.

Synopsis: Narrated by legendary lawyer Clarence Darrow, the play dig into the psyches behind both the infamous Leopold and Loeb murder cases and the equally famed Papin Sisters simultaneously.  Both couples were said to have created a ‘folie a deux’ – ‘insanity in pairs’ – seemingly justifying their senseless acts of violence.  Examining the bizarre parallels between these unrelated, but equally gruesome, stories in the hopes of determining a sense behind it all.
